The 30 Day Book Challenge – Day 22: Book you plan to read next

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote

I fear my posts will be somewhat fewer over the next 2 weeks – university assignments have really began to pile up, and I have a full week of activites planned – I went to a concert on both this passing Friday and Saturday nights, I’m seeing Dylan Moran (!!) on Thursday night at the Opera House, a wedding on Friday night and several birthday drinks/dinners/farewells in between. And I leave for a long weekend in Melbourne in 2 weeks. Yikes!

So with that hectic schedule in mind, it’s likely that I won’t embark on another book quite yet, having just finished the stunning Everything Is Illumiated. But when I have a spare sixty seconds to rub together, I plan on reading In Cold Blood. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it and I have a copy that sits on my bookshelf and it’s been staring at me lately…Read me…Go on, you know you want to…

There are plenty of books that I want to read though in the future. I somewhat optimistically was glancing at the Guardian’s 1000 Novels Everyone Must Read Before They Die. I suggest you check it out, it’s a very comphrensive and interesting list, broken up into categories to make it easier to navigate. I have proudly read 48 items on this list…Only 952 to go…

How many books off this list have you read? Do you think that such lists have merit to them, or that reading is a more personal choice and these lists are biased?

  1. I know how it feels to be overwhelmed by university assignments – it feels literally like drowning!

In Cold Blood is on my reading list too – let us know how good the book is when you are finished reading it.

I found Guardian’s book list to be very informative. I’ve looked over many books lists to compile a list of books that I’d like to read. They are very useful if you don’t have too many expectations. While I have found some gems from these lists, I also found a lot of books that I don’t care a fig about. They are definitely a good place to start though.

Hope you have a nice time in Melbourne!
